Today, day eight of our giveaway, we are gifting Kelly Irvin’s, Mountains of Grace, the first in her newest series, Amish of Big Sky Country.
It’s a new year and a time of reflection and for looking ahead. I hope each of you are blessed with an amazing year and that whatever role you play in your world, it’s a positive one.
Cultures all around the world have specific traditions, foods, and ways of celebrating the New Year. Many believe that following these traditions will bring good luck. Either you are a traditionalist to your heritage or not, but these traditions tend to serve as reminders of our childhood days and family gatherings.
Family is the core of the Amish and they also celebrate the New Year’s with food, fellowship, and family. Locally they treat it as one of the biggest days of the year, whereas some Old Order communities might begin the day with service, song, and prayer. It can be a day of leisure, vacationing, and even hunting. There are no resolutions made, for Amish treat each day as a chance to improve upon the next, all year long. .
The Amish traditionally serve a meal of beef, or mainly pork and sauerkraut. Made numerous ways, but traditionally served with mashed potatoes, favorite side dishes, and fresh bread.
Today I am offering my simple peanut butter sheet cake recipe. I have shared this with a few of my friends, family, and Amish neighbors and have never had a complaint, so I hope you find it to your liking as well. It is perfect for feeding a large crowd and for those of you who know me, peanut butter anything is always the best recipe.
