Cleaning house with audio!

A collage of book covers featuring titles related to Amish life and romance, including 'An Amish Flower Farm', 'The Flower Quilter', 'Lancaster Amish Christmas', 'A Stolen Kiss', 'Courting An Amish Bishop', and 'Hunting for a Husband'.

When I was young, my younger sister and I loved listening to books on cassette tape. Our favorite was the Fox and The Hound. The narrator did such a fabulous job keeping us engaged as we followed along.

Now, fast forward a lot of years later, I’ve found renewed love in listening to audiobooks. Not only does listening to audio books teach me to be a better writer and the importance of a characters voice in the story, but it allows me to be mobile.

I have a large family and live on a small farm that requires my daily attention. I write anywhere from four to sixteen hours a day. When you love books as much as I do, it’s hard to write most of your day, only to sit and read. It’s not good for my health or my husbands when the house work gets set aside.

Listening to audio books gets the laundry folded, the floors swept, and the farm chores finished!!! I recently downloaded the libby app on my phone as well. I can’t tell you how much more interesting driving to town to pay bills is.

There are dozens of ways to listen to audio books on a budget. I still love the feel of a book in my hand while sitting on the porch in the wee hours of the morning, but audio books have the ability to get you on your feet and going!!!

Consider audio books if…

1. You haven’t washed your hair this week.

2. Spiders have taken over every corner of your home.

3. You haven’t walked outdoors in two days.

4. You haven’t engaged in conversation today.

5. Your TBR (to-be-read) pile is out of control.

I’m currently listening to Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse’s The Heart’s Choice.
